Metinvest has been implementing social partnership programmes in the cities where it operates since 2012. Each year, we select the most important projects together with local residents, experts and government representatives. We also invest in local infrastructure, healthcare, culture and sports.

Modernising public transport

Steelmakers in Mariupol have purchased and presented to the city two trams and eight high-capacity MAZ buses since 2012. They serves vital routes that connect the city’s remote districts. Two more buses have been donated to provide adequate transport between Mariupol and the Sartana and Talakivka settlements. Local companies have invested more than UAH23.7 mn to modernise the municipal public transport system.

In early 2017, municipal buses were equipped with GPS satellite navigation systems. Future plans include developing an application to allow smartphones and PCs to track buses along their routes. Metinvest plans to invest nearly UAH1.5 mn in public transport projects.

Renovating municipal micro-districts

Metinvest’s subsidiaries in Kryvyi Rih have completed a complex renovation programme in the municipal micro-districts where their employees live. This included repairing apartment facades, roads and public squares, as well as building dozens of sports fields and playgrounds in a total of 44 micro-districts.

Rebuilding infrastructure

The armed conflict in Eastern Ukraine has seen the industrial districts of Donbas shelled many times. Hundreds of residential buildings have been damaged and our operations have been affected.

Avdiivka Coke has repaired a total of 69 apartment buildings and 15 social infrastructure sites that were damaged by the shelling, and donated construction materials to 135 private homeowners free of charge so that they can repair their homes. Metinvest has designated UAH18 mn for these purposes.

In January 2015, the Skhidny micro-district in Mariupol was damaged by artillery shelling. Employees of Ilyich Steel and Azovstal helped to repair the damage. Dozens of professional builders and repairmen worked in the neighbourhood daily to repair 30 private houses, two schools and four kindergartens. Metinvest has allocated nearly UAH11.6 mn for restoration work in the micro-district and direct aid to residents.

Repairing hospitals

Avdiivka Coke supports the local municipal hospital, including providing petrol and oxygen and restoring the building after shelling in 2014-15. In 2016, it repaired the building housing the hospital’s infectious disease ward and landscaped the hospital grounds.

Metinvest’s iron ore enrichment subsidiaries support Municipal Hospital no. 17. This includes rebuilding the paediatric ward in 2015 and repairing the surgical ward in 2016. The work cost a total of UAH3.5 mn.

The Group’s steelmaking subsidiaries in Mariupol have been supporting the city’s healthcare institutions since 2006. Azovstal has donated more than UAH16 mn to repair and develop infrastructure at Municipal Hospital no. 4. Illyich Steel provides oxygen to 10 healthcare institutions in Mariupol. It has also purchased a mobile X-ray machine and surgical table costing UAH2.2 mn for Municipal Hospital no. 5.

Renovating sports facilities

Metinvest sponsors sports activities and facilities in every city where it operates. In the village of Novhorodske, for example, we have repaired the local sports facility, football field and grandstands, and donated sports equipment. We have invested a total of UAH1.5 mn in our sports programmes.
