Application

Steel grade ASTM A529 Grade 50 is used in the manufacture of welded, riveted and bolted structures of increased strength.

 

Welding

ASTM A529 Grade 50 steel has limited weldability. Welding methods for ASTM A529 Grade 50 steel:

  • manual arc welding
  • manual argon arc welding
  • automatic submerged arc welding
  • mechanized consumable electrode welding in carbon dioxide
  • electroclad welding
  • contact welding

Heating and subsequent thermal treatment is recommended.
