Metinvest Supplies 100th Mobile Shelter to Ukrainian Defence Forces

Since the early days of the full-scale war, Metinvest Group has been actively involved in Ukraine’s fight against the aggressor. One of the most important efforts has involved providing comprehensive aid to defenders as part of Rinat Akhmetov's Steel Front military initiative. In particular, Metinvest has delivered 100 special mobile shelters to the front line. Most of them protect defenders in sectors of the front line where the fiercest battles are taking place, including near Bakhmut.

Among means of protection, the most demanded are safety modules that enable defenders to quickly set up mobile shelters on the front line. Prefabricated constructions with a diameter of 2 metres and a length of 6 metres are produced at the Group’s enterprises. When properly installed one and a half metres underground, the shelters can withstand shelling from artillery pieces with a calibre of up to 152 millimetres. The capsules are being deployed quite widely: they are protecting the lives of fighters in the Avdiivka, Pokrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Zhytomyr regions. In addition, Metinvest recently provided defenders with the 100th shelter, which will protect the lives of soldiers near Bakhmut.

"The defenders of Ukraine are fighting for Ukrainians and their cities around the clock, guarding combat positions tirelessly. Metinvest provides regular support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine to enhance the morale of soldiers and their will to fight. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale aggression, the Group has shipped the 100th mobile shelter, which will serve as protection and a temporary resting place for our soldiers in Donetsk region. The safety module will protect the lives of defenders near Bakhmut. We believe in the victory of Ukraine and are doing everything possible to ensure this."

The shelter, which can accommodate six fighters, is equipped with a field oven that enables occupants to warm up, heat food and dry clothes. The capsule also allows air communications and has weapon racks, while there are main and backup exits to the surface. The production of one shelter requires almost 2 tonnes of Metinvest steel and takes 165 man-hours.

In addition, Metinvest specialists have developed a capsule prototype that can also be used by civilians. The diameter and length of the structure was increased by one and a half times, internal equipment was improved, and the beds were replaced with benches. Final testing of the capsule is ongoing.

In total, since the start of the full-scale war, Metinvest has donated more than UAH1.5 billion to support Ukrainian Defence Forces. The Group is supplying the Armed Forces of Ukraine, National Guard and Main Intelligence Directorate with armoured vests, helmets, drones, cars, night-vision devices and other equipment and gadgets to help to protect Ukraine.
