Supporting healthcare remains one of the main priorities for Kryvyi Rih, a city close to the front line. City Hospital No. 3 is one of the region’s key hospital facilities, providing care not only for local residents but also for people who have moved to Kryvyi Rih because of the war.
“Ukraine’s reconstruction begins with the health of its people. For Mr Rinat Akhmetov, it is particularly important that Ukrainians receive quality medical care in modern, dignified conditions. This project brought together the capabilities of business, the city and the public healthcare system, alongside the Foundation’s humanitarian expertise. Our task is not simply to refurbish a building, but to create a safe and humane healthcare environment that the residents of Kryvyi Rih will use every day,” said Natalia Yemchenko, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.
Metinvest, together with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, funded the main refurbishment works at the medical facility: the ground floor, radiology department and sterilisation department were renovated. A modern shelter for 350 people was also equipped at the hospital.
The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation additionally provided the hospital with computer equipment and household appliances to support medical staff in their work and to ensure the comfort of patients: laptops, refrigerators, water coolers, coffee machines and microwaves.
“One of our largest projects to support healthcare was the major refurbishment of the outpatient clinic, hospital departments and shelter at Kryvyi Rih City Hospital No. 3, which we carried out together with our partners. We took a systematic approach to this work — from the design of the clinical areas to the appearance of the building itself and the creation of an accessible environment for all patients, including people with disabilities. Around UAH 125 million has been allocated to these extensive works,” said Oleksandr Myronenko, Chief Operating Officer of Metinvest Group.
Patients will now be seen, and administrative and laboratory services will operate, in comfortable surroundings. The first floor houses urology and surgical consulting rooms, consulting rooms for a dermatologist, a neurologist and an ophthalmologist, and the refurbished day treatment unit.
The second floor houses the clinical diagnostic laboratory, administrative offices and other facilities. A dedicated room for psychological relaxation and a modern conference room have been provided for medical staff.
The refurbished premises have been equipped, using the hospital’s own funds, with new, modern medical furniture, examination couches, treatment trolleys and comfortable chairs.
“We are comprehensively refurbishing hospitals — from renovating walls to creating barrier-free spaces, modern shelters and state-of-the-art operating theatres and diagnostic departments. Today, Kryvyi Rih serves as a centre for hospital care in southern Ukraine, and we are actively working to develop the healthcare sector and create comfortable conditions for both patients and our doctors. I want to thank our partners — Metinvest and the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. Together, we have delivered a major healthcare project at City Hospital No. 3, having carried out a complete refurbishment of the outpatient clinic. All of this takes the provision of medical care to a new level. Quality healthcare, infrastructure upgrades and the provision of modern medical care to residents and our military personnel remain of paramount importance to us,” said Oleksandr Vilkul, Head of the Kryvyi Rih Defence Council.
The consultation and diagnostic centre can see up to 290 patients daily across 10 specialities: traumatology, endocrinology, ophthalmology, urology, surgery (including a diabetic foot clinic), cardiology, otorhinolaryngology, dermatology, neurology and gastroenterology. The centre also has a day treatment unit with 22 beds: 17 for neurology and 5 for general care. Medical care is provided by 15 doctors and 22 nurses.
“Our catchment area covers around 101,000 patients. Following the renovation, the premises are much brighter and more spacious and working here is more enjoyable. Even when someone is ill, they understand that the conditions here are good and everything will be all right. If a patient needs further treatment, we refer them to inpatient care; otherwise, we have an excellent day treatment unit. We can boast modern ophthalmic and endoscopic equipment, advanced ultrasound examinations and Holter monitoring — services that were previously a challenge for the city but are now available right here at our hospital. The level of comfort and the quality of care have therefore improved noticeably,” emphasised Andrii Makov, Director of City Hospital No. 3.
Following the refurbishment of the hospital itself, there are plans to transform the surrounding area by creating a modern park for children and families. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation’s project, in partnership with Metinvest and the city, envisages installing artistic figures inspired by the work of Ukrainian painter Maria Prymachenko and creating a children’s play area with swings.
