Unfortunately, during the first eight months of the war, the Metinvest family had to pay a huge price in the fight for Ukraine’s freedom and independence. As a result of the hostilities, 501 employees of the Group and members of their families died. They include 140 employees who gave their lives defending Ukraine in the Armed Forces and 361 civilians who were performing work duties or were simply in cities attacked by Russia. The number tragically includes 22 children of employees, the youngest of whom was less than one year old.
Through the heroism of Metinvest’s employees, cities on the front line have been protected from environmental catastrophe. Production at enterprises in Mariupol and Avdiivka was halted and mothballed in good time. Tragically, Mariupol and Avdiivka saw the largest numbers of employees killed, while Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, Kamianske, Pokrovsk and other cities were also affected. The families of all those killed have received financial and psychological support from the Group.
On 31 October, on the 250th day of the war, a minute of silence will be observed at all Metinvest enterprises in meetings with employee teams to honour the memory of those lost.
Also, during the first eight months of the war, 593 employees and members of their families were wounded. In addition to financial support, the Group is working to help members of our large family to make a speedy recovery. The wounded are given medical assistance as part of humanitarian initiatives and insurance programmes valid for all Group employees.
Around 7,000 Metinvest employees have been mobilised into the Armed Forces of Ukraine and continue to defend the country against the aggressor. The Group has been equipping mobilised employees with protective gear like helmets and armoured vests.
For more about Metinvest’s work and its assistance to employees, civilians and the Armed Forces during the 250 days of war, see the Group’s media resources on 31 October.
Victory will be ours! Glory to Ukraine!
