The competition consists of two stages - regional and all-Ukrainian - and lasts for two years.The selection for the competition in regions takes place in October-November this year, and the final on the national level - in April-May, 2022.
This year the competition will comprise 18 competences, whilst 12 of them - for the students of vocational education institutions and qualified workers and 6 - for school students. The essence of the assignments is for the participants to demonstrate their practical skills within a given time limit.
The Metinvest Group traditionally sponsors work task competences and supports competitions among lathe operators, fitters, electric fitters, welders, assistant locomotive drivers, crane operators, refractory fitters.
This year Metinvest has taken the initiative to conduct additional projects and activities for experts, contestants, school teachers and students, which will assist in the promotion of technical occupations and increase standards of vocational technical education.
In particular, since November, 2021 till May, 2022 the training in the WorldSkills Ukraine Academy takes place within which the WorldSkills International experts will conduct trainings for Ukrainian specialists on international standards for holding competitions and assessment of competitor's competences.Meanwhile the teachers of vocational technical education institutions of Mariupol, Zaporozhye and Kryvoy Rog will be able to raise their qualification at the Metinvest enterprises and take part in conferences.
Metinvest also helps combined teams to prepare for the competition.Master classes in completing competition assignments, visits to the enterprises and appointments with Group top managers are arranged for the participants of the regional competitions since September this year.
The school students in Grades 8-9 will be able to take part in the career guidance program Steel Craft.These are the stations, that imitate production assignments for technical specialists.The participants will be suggested passing quests, which make it possible to try themselves in a worker occupation.The program starts in October, 2021 and will be implemented in Mariupol, Zaporozhye and Krivoy Rog.

Worldskills Ukraine is a part of Worldskills International competition, also called Olympics for the students and workers aged 18-22.
The competition is organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Institute of Education Content Modernization, the Federation of Employers of Ukraine and is supported by the Federation of Metallurgists of Ukraine and Ukrmetallurgprom association.
Worldskills International was founded in 1946. This is the largest skills competition in the world holding its events in 85 countries. Ukraine became a member of Worldskills International in 2016.
