46 cases from Ukrainian companies from different sectors of the economy had been entered in the competition. 33 projects competed in the category "Community Development."
Metinvest's case showed how the company helped the cities where it operated when the conflict in the east of the country broke out. Metinvest did not cut social investments: it invested UAH 133 million in 2014. The company redistributed funds to help affected people, provide accommodation for refugees, and rebuild infrastructure in cities. Residential buildings, hospitals, kindergartens and schools were rebuilt in Mariupol, Avdiivka, Krasnodon, and Yenakiieve. A railway bridge over the Kalchyk River that connected Mariupol with the rest of Ukraine was rebuilt thanks to the company's financial assistance. Despite the serious challenges, the Group maintained its enterprises and jobs, continued paying salaries and providing social benefits, and paid taxes to the state budget of Ukraine.
The corporate social responsibility business case competition is held every year by the Center for CSR Development, a leading independent center for CSR expertise that includes 38 companies. Companies' projects are assessed by international experts.
