Characteristics of 09G2S-brand steel

09G2S is a low-alloy structural steel used in shaped and flat products. It conforms to GOST standards 19281-73 and 19281-89.

Standards: DSTU 8541, GOST 19281, DSTU 8804, GOST 5520, DSTU 7809, GOST 1050.

Classification: Structural steel for weld-fabricated constructions.

Product: Thick-plate, coiled, rolled and shaped products, arc-welded pipes and sections.

Application

Products made from 09G2S steel are widely used in construction components of various shapes and sizes. Its high physical integrity allows for thinner elements to be used compared with other steel types. 09G2S is used in construction materials, steam boilers, and pipes for gas and liquids (oil, water). It is also used in oil-industry equipment and various mechanical agricultural components, as well as in almost all aspects of machine-building and manufacturing. Its high thermal tolerance allows it to be used in temperatures ranging from -70°С to +450°С.

 

Welding

09G2S steel can be welded cold or when heated to 100-120°С. Its low carbon content makes welding fairly easy, and it does not harden or overheat during the process, meaning its plasticity is not reduced nor its graininess increased. Another advantage of 09G2S is that it is not prone to brittleness or a decrease in viscosity post-production. These characteristics explain the steel’s ease of use compared with other steels that contain higher concentrations of carbon or other additives that do not boil as well and affect the makeup of the steel following heat-treatment. 09G2S can be welded using any electrode type designed for low-alloy and low-carbon steel, e.g. E42A and E50A.
